The second New York City Regional RoboCupJunior event was held on February 1, 2007 at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).

In preparation for February 1, 2007, two workshops on educational robotics -- building and programming LEGO Mindstorms and NXT -- will be held in December 2006 and January 2007. The workshops are open to any teachers and others who are interested in mentoring teams for the February 1st event. All workshops are free.

Please pre-register, by sending email to Elizabeth Sklar with your name, email address, school, grade level(s) and subject(s) that you teach, and experience with robotics if any (none is required!).


  • Tuesday December 19, 2006, 5-8pm

    location: CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (Manhattan, between 34th and 35th street), room 5414, on the 5th floor

    topics:

    • overview of the RoboCupJunior challenges
    • how to organize an RCJ team
    • break-out into two groups:
      1. introduction to programming LEGO Mindstorms using RoboLab
      2. organizers meeting for Feb 1


  • Saturday January 6, 2007, 10am-2pm

    location: Brooklyn College, 2900 Bedford Avenue, Flatbush (last stop on the 2 and 5 trains or Avenue H on the Q train), room: 233 Roosevelt Hall (click for directions)

    topics:
    participants can choose between programming interfaces and platforms:
    Mindstorms: Lejos (Java-based), RoboLab (graphical), NQC (C-based)
    or NXT: LME or RoboLab

    • Introduction to programming interface
    • Hands-on labs will include:
      • Bumper (touch sensor) lab
      • Line following and target acquisition (light sensor) lab
      • RoboCupJunior Rescue lab
      • RoboCupJunior Soccer lab
    • Preparing for RCJ
