The first New York City Regional RoboCupJunior
event was held on March 31, 2006 at
the Graduate Center
of
the City University of New York (CUNY).
workshops
In preparation for March 31, 2006, a series of workshops on
educational robotics -- building and programming LEGO Mindstorms --
were held in January and February 2006.
The workshops were open to any teachers and others who are interested
in mentoring teams for the March 31st event.
All workshops were free.
Please pre-register, by sending email to
Elizabeth Sklar
with your name, email address, school, grade level(s) and subject(s)
that you teach, and experience with robotics if any (none is required!).
Monday December 12, 5-7pm -- Interest Meeting and Mini-Workshop
location: CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (Manhattan, between
34th and 35th street), in the Science Center on the 4th floor
topics:
- very brief introduction to programming LEGO Mindstorms using RoboLab
- overview of the RoboCupJunior challenges
- how to organize an RCJ team
Saturday January 7, 10am-6pm -- TECS, Educational Robotics and
RoboCupJunior Workshops

Brooklyn College,
2900 Bedford Avenue, Flatbush (last stop on the 2 and 5
trains or Avenue H on the Q train), room: 238 New Ingersoll Hall

- TECS Workshop (10am-2pm)
- Introduction to Programming, in Java
- Object-Oriented Programming Fundamentals, in Java
- Inheritance, in Java
- Educational Robotics Workshop (2pm-6pm)
participants can choose between programming interfaces:
Lejos (Java-based), RoboLab (graphical) and NQC (C-based)
- Introduction to programming interface
- Bumper (touch sensor) lab
- Line following (light sensor) lab
- RoboCupJunior Rescue lab
- Relating robotics programming to general programming
